MALONE - Two Saranac Lake teenagers that had been missing since last weekend have been located, and a 17-year-old Malone teen could face charges for misleading police about their whereabouts.

Sammi Walker, 15, and Brook Oakes, 14, were discovered safe at a Duane Street residence in Malone, according to District Attorney Derek Champagne.

Mr. Champagne said Kyle Proper, 17, lives at the residence residence where the girls were found. Mr. Proper, according to the D.A., told police earlier in the week that he last saw the girls early Saturday morning when they left to board a bus back to Saranac Lake, but they were reportedly hiding in the house at that time.

Malone Village Police had been watching the residence and discovered Ms. Walker and Ms. Oakes after receiving information that they were there.

Mr. Proper could face a misdemeanor charge of obstructing governmental administration.

Mr. Champagne said law enforcement expended “a lot of resources” in searching for the two teenagers, including obtaining subpoenas for phone records and Facebook activity.

“These cases are difficult for everyone – family members who are distraught and concerned, difficult for law enforcement deciding what resources to expend,” he said.
