CANTON A strong first half led the St. Lawrence University womens basketball team to a 58-44 win over Skidmore College in a Liberty League semifinal Wednesday night.
The second-seeded Saints (18-8 overall) will host No. 4 William Smith at a time to be determined Saturday in the championship game. William Smith upset top-seeded Vassar, 69-58.
SLU built a 27-15 lead by halftime and held on to defeat Skidmore (12-14).
Kelly Legg led the Saints with 16 points and Kara McDuffee scored 12. Former South Jefferson standout Amanda Roberts snagged 10 rebounds for SLU. Dani DeGregory led Skidmore with 17 points.
MENS HOCKEY
SUNY Geneseo 9, SUNY Potsdam 0: David Ripple scored two goals with one assist to lead the No. 3 Knights over No. 6 SUNY Potsdam (9-16-1) in a SUNYAC quarterfinal in Geneseo.
Tyler Bricker added one goal and three assists for Geneseo (17-8-1). Carson Schell, Zachary Vit, Corbin Rosmarin, Ryan Donnelly, Nate Brown and Alex Lubczuk also scored for SUNY Geneseo, and Bryan Haude made 22 saves for the shutout.
