POTSDAM — A funeral for 93-year old Mrs. Agatha M. “Gay” Hanson will be held Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at 2:00 PM at Seymour Funeral Home in Potsdam with Pastor Lee Sweeney officiating. A spring burial will be in Chapel Hill Cemetery, Parishville. Friends may call at the Seymour Funeral Home in Potsdam on Monday from 2:00 to 4 PM and 7:00 to 9:00 PM.

Mrs. Hanson died February 8, 2013 at the St. Regis Nursing Home in Massena. She was a lifelong resident of Potsdam.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law Donna and Dale Sampier of N. Lawrence, a son Bernard “Bun” Hanson of Norfolk, 6 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and 3 great great-grandchildren. “Gay” was predeceased by her husband, Howard, three brothers Bernard, Walter and Athel Shatraw, and a sister Irene Enslow.

Agatha was born January 10, 1920 in Hopkinton, NY the daughter of George and Pearl (LaVine) Shatraw. She graduated form Potsdam High School in 1938. On June 28, 1940 “Gay” married Howard C. Hanson. He died February 13, 1971.

“Gay” was a member of the Norwood Golden Agers and Potsdam Sandstoners Senior Citizens Clubs. She had been employed at SUNY Potsdam College as a cleaner prior to her retirement.
