POTSDAM - Despite 25 points and 11 rebounds from freshman Ashley Loggins (Albany, NY), the Clarkson University womens basketball team couldnt maintain the pace of visiting Rochester Institute of Technology, and fell 60-49 in Liberty League action Friday night at Alumni Gymnasium.
The Golden Knights dropped to 2-12 overall and 0-6 in the Liberty League, while RIT won its first conference game of the year to improve to 4-9 overall and 1-4 in league contests. Clarkson takes on William Smith on Saturday afternoon.
The Tigers led throughout, but the game was close up until midway through the half. RIT was able to extend its lead late in the half with a strong effort from beyond the 3-point arc, making five of its first eight shots from distance, and went into the locker room with a 10-point edge, 32-22.
Loggins finished shooting 10-for-14 from the field and added three steals. Leighann Tomita (Cerritos, CA), back from a leg injury, added nine points and three steals off the bench. For RIT, Leslie Havens had 16 points and six rebounds and Courtney Tennant added 14 points and eight boards.
SLU 76, William Smith 63: Kara McDuffee scored 23 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead the Saints (11-3, 5-0) past William Smith in a Liberty League contest in Canton.
Kelly Legg added 16 points and 10 rebounds for SLU. Chloe Hayter paced William Smith (8-6, 2-3) with 23 points and nine rebounds.
SUNY Oneonta 57, SUNY Potsdam 39: Grace Schilling scored 13 points as Oneonta (5-9, 2-5) knocked off the Bears in a SUNYAC game in Potsdam.
Chenice Russell led the Bears (1-13, 0-7) with 10 points.
SUNY Canton 50, Morrisville 48: Kaitlin Myers scored 13 points and grabbed 15 rebounds as the Kangaroos (9-7) defeated Morrisville State in a nonconference game in Canton.
Joelle Percy scored 12 points and Corrine Riegel added 11 for SUNY Canton. Jennel Paul led Morrisville State (1-14) with 17 points.
