POTSDAM — A funeral service for Ms. Sara M. Hanley, 82, was held Monday, Dec. 31, 2012, at 2 p.m. at the Seymour Funeral Home in Potsdam with Rev. James Barnes officiating. Calling hours were also held on Monday. There will also be a grave side committal service at the time of her burial in Mound Hill Cemetery in Nicholville, time and date to be announced. Ms. Hanley died at the Canton-Potsdam Hospital on Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012.

Ms. Hanley is survived by her caregiver and nephew, Mr. Martin Hanley of Dickinson Center, a niece, Rose Marie Moras of Chatham, Illinois, two great nieces, Desiree and Meagan Hanley and one great nephew John A. Hanley. She was predeceased by a brother John F. Hanley and a nephew John A. Hanley.

Sara was born in Malone, New York, April 11, 1930 to William and Genevieve Fisk Hanley. She graduated from North Lawrence High School in 1948. She earned her associate’s degree at Canton Agricultural & Technical College in 1950 and her bachelor’s degree at SUNY Empire State College in 1985.

Sara was employed as a dietician in Utica Memorial Hospital and Faxton Hospital from 1951 through 1957. She was School Lunch Manager at Salmon River Central School from 1958 to 1974, at Madison and Morrisville School Districts from 1974 to 1976 and was School Lunch Director at Gloversville Enlarged School District from 1976 until retiring in 1989. Sara was a member of the United Methodist Church in Potsdam, the Potsdam Sandstone Senior Citizens Club and had life membership in the NYS Retired Public Employees Association.

Arrangements for Sara’s services are with the Seymour Funeral Home, Potsdam.
