MASSENA - After eight years in business at 67 Andrews St., the Downtown Florist has expanded and is now utilizing the entire building it’s shop is located in.

“We were looking for a little room and wanted to offer more products,” according to Patty M. Wells, who owns and operates the business with her husband, Kenny.

While the expansion was only recently completed, Ms. Wells said it is something she and her husband have talked about doing for just over a year.

“We saw an increase in business, so we decided to go ahead with the expansion,” Ms. Wells said. “We’ve expanded our retail area and our design area.”

With the expanded retail area, Ms. Wells said the shop was able to increase its offerings to its customers.

“We have a larger walk-in cooler, where we can hold a larger variety of fresh flowers,” she said. “We also have a larger variety of gourmet chocolates and are now offering candy bouquets.”

Another new product offered by the store is “Himalayan Salt Lamps.” Ms. Wells described the lamps as “a decorative lamp that helps to cleanse the air while putting out a warm glow.”

She said while the shop is offering new products they’re still offering solar angels, solar crosses and a wide variety of seasonal and every day silk flowers.

The store’s staff also remains the same, she said.

“We have experienced floral designers,” she said, adding she and Shelly LaBarge have been in the business for “well over 10 years.”

And sales associate Suzie LaPointe is even getting in on the design wor, by handling the store’s decorating and arranging its candy bouquets.

Ms. LeBarge said customers who have seen the newly expanded store have been impressed.

“Those who knew what it used to look like are totally amazed,” she said.

And Ms. Wells said those who haven’t seen it yet, should come and check it out.

“We would like to invite everyone to stop down and see the new shop,” she said. “We would also like to wish the community happy holidays.”
