A Watertown man was found possessing a small quantity of heroin and a syringe after he was halted early Wednesday for driving without headlights, according to Watertown police.
John D. Deegan, 26, of 219 E. Hoard St., was arrested at 1:10 a.m. in the 300 block of State Street on charges of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminal possession of a hypodermic instrument, second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation and the headlight infraction. He was detained pending arraignment in City Court.
Police conducted a vehicle search after he was arrested on the aggravated-unlicensed charge, which stems from five suspensions on his license. The syringe and heroin, contained in a wax envelope, were found under the drivers seat, police said.
Mr. Deegan was sentenced in February 2010 in Jefferson County Court to five years probation for second-degree burglary.
