IDENTITY THEFT - MASSENA - A Massena couple were jailed Sunday afternoon following an investigation into the use of stolen credit cards at the St. Lawrence Centre mall.
Massena-based state police charged Cory M. Shampine, 34, and Melissa M. Shampine, 26, both of 93 Maple St., Massena, were each charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property and second-degree identity theft.
Mr. Shampine was arraigned by Massena Town Justice James M. Crandall and sent to the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility with bail set at $5,000 cash or $10,000 bond. Ms. Shampine was also arraigned by Judge Crandall and jailed with bail set at $2,500 cash or $5,000 bond.
Mr. Shampine allegedly used a stolen credit card to purchase gas and cigarettes at the Sunoco station on South Main Street on March 9 and that same day gave two stolen credit cards to Courtney A. LaBar, 19, of 491 Sylvan Falls Road, Hopkinton, and had her purchase $106.98 worth of video games at the Gamestop store at the St. Lawrence Centre mall. Ms. Shampine reportedly used the stolen credit card to purchase additional items at Gamestop valued at $160.47.
Troopers charged LaBar with third-degree forgery, fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property and second-degree identity theft.
